Speculation and Champagne

This past weekend I attended Jenny-Rose's latest fabulous party. Imagine an evening filled with tasty drinks and period nibbles, games of Whist and Speculation, everyone in their finest Regency attire, all set in a room lit with dozen of candles. Perfection! I had a wonderful time playing cards, drinking punch and champagne, meeting new people, and catching up with old friends.

I finished my new grey taffeta dress in time for the party and paired it with a gorgeous cashmere shawl I got for Christmas two years ago, a vintage amethyst paste necklace, a circa 1810 amethyst brooch, and a tiara of course!

I'm not completely happy with the finished dress and before I wear it again it needs a few tweaks. It ended up being too big overall and my hooks and eyes in back kept coming apart all night. Also, there is way too much fabric at the center front; I need to tighten the fit under the bust. Finally, I've learned I'm just not a fan of puffy sleeves in general. I have lots of fabric left so I may try a different sleeve style.

That being said I love the neckline and color and will definitely rework the dress in the future to make it closer to my original vision. Most of my costumes are tweaked for the second wearing anyway.

I didnt take many pictures but here are a few of my favorites from the party:
