Costume College - Friday

And I'm back! I had a lovely time, as usual, at Costume College this year. It was so nice to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. I really tried to overcome my shyness this year and one of the best parts of the weekend for me was chatting with lots of different costumers and getting to know them a little better. I hope to do even better next year!

You can see all my photos here, but I also thought I'd give you a break down of what I wore each day.

Samples of different fringes from class.

Friday started off great with a class on fly fringe, taught by Colonial Williamsburg's head milliner and mantua-maker Janea Whitacer. It was a really fun skill to learn and while I dont know when, if ever, I'll make enough for a whole dress, I definitely want to make enough to trim a bag. I have grand plans brewing, but more on that later.

Posing in our almost matching habits with Jen of Festive Attyre.

After class, I changed from modern clothes into my riding habit and met up with lots of other lovely ladies in their habits and redingotes.  I'm so glad I got to wear my habit again. Its so much fun! As you can see from the photos, I couldn't fit my giant hat in the suitcase, so I made a quick little puffy cap thing to go over the wig. I'll share some construction details in a later post.

After at late lunch, it was time to change for the ice cream social. I wore my new cross front dress, pink open robe and ridiculous grey bonnet. I think this might have been my favorite outfit of the whole weekend. The hat was so much fun to wear and the robe with its long train and full skirt was just so luxurious!

To be continued!
